China opens investigation against Nvidia for possible violations of antitrust law

China has opened an investigation into Nvidia over suspicions that the American chipmaker has violated antitrust laws. The State Administration for Market Regulation opened an investigation into the company’s recent behavior, as reported on Monday by China Central Television.

Nvidia’s position as the leading supplier of artificial intelligence chips has put it in the crossfire of the battle for technological supremacy between the United States and China. Washington has banned the company from selling its most advanced semiconductors to Chinese companies – undermining its ability to develop AI services. which has provoked harsh criticism from Beijing.

Nvidia has repeatedly tried to develop AI chips that comply with U.S. controls and allow Chinese customers to work on critical new technology.
