The Chilean government announced on Friday that it will move forward with a process of expiry of the local unit’s electricity supply concessionof the Italian company Enel after failures to restore service.
The process began after prolonged service outages following a storm with strong winds that affected the central part of the country at the beginning of the month.
The Superintendent of Electricity and Fuels, Marta Cabeza, He explained to reporters that an analysis of the company’s performance will be carried out, which serves 33 municipalities in the capital region, which will also include Enel’s allegations.
“The technical report is the stage that we have started, in which compliance with the regulations to which the Enel company is subject will be verified in order to, after carrying out the analysis, “It can be concluded whether it effectively meets all the aspects to provide quality and continuity of supply,” he said.
He added that the report could take between six and 18 months.
Enel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
For his part, the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, stated that the report “The decision is then forwarded to the President of the Republic so that he can make the final decision.”
The government has also brought charges against China’s State Grid’s distributor CGE, although he said that due to the fulfillment of customer reconnection had not been necessaryfor the moment, activate the concession expiration mechanism.
