The British royal family continues to reorganize itself after one of the most turbulent periods in its recent history. The fall from grace of the ya former Prince Andrewstripped of all his titles and honors by decision of Charles III, has left a void within the official agenda of the Royal House. While it is true that Isabel II’s youngest son did not have many commitments, he did take care of some events.
And it is in that context that the princesses Beatriz and Eugeniadaughters of Andrés Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, are once again positioned on the board as possible support figures for the Crown.
After years focused on their professional careers, the sisters could take on a more active role representing the monarch, at least occasionally. Sources close to Buckingham assure that this idea has been on the table for some time, but that the latest scandals that have affected his parents have accelerated the conversations. “This was already being considered before, but it is not ruled out despite everything that happened with Andrés. His daughters They are hardworking, educated and want to help”says a well-placed informant within the royalty.
The king wants to send a clear message: neither Beatriz nor Eugenia should pay for the his father’s mistakes. The situation of Andrés, involved in the Jeffrey Epstein plot and pointed out by the abuse complaint filed by Virginia Giuffre, has forever deteriorated his image and his place in the institution. Added to this are other internal tensions: her complex negotiation to leave Royal Lodge, rumors about her surroundings and the social fall of Sarah Ferguson, who would even be considering settling in Portugal for a time.
Faced with this panorama, Charles III, supported by Prince William, wants reinforce the stability of the real core incorporating new generational supports. And the princesses of York fit that purpose: young, discreet, with professional experience outside the Royal House and, above all, unrelated to controversy.
At the beginning of the month, both were photographed hugging in the middle of the street in London, a gesture that many interpreted as a symbol of unity in one of the hardest moments for their family.
Princess Eugenie, 35, was the first to be seen in an institutional commitment since the scandal broke out. He has been collaborating for months as mentor at The King’s Foundation and on November 13, he attended, on behalf of the organization, a reception with young art curators under 35 years of age.
“There I was excited, proud that they had counted on me“, he later confessed. “It has been fantastic to spend more time with these talented young people. I am excited to support them on their path to the future.” Eugenia combines this work with her position as director at the prestigious Hauser & Wirth gallery, a field she dominates thanks to her passion for fine arts.
For her part, Princess Beatrice, 37, has just been named deputy patron of The Outward Bound Trust, an entity dedicated to outdoor education. It is not a foreign world for her: she had already served as a director in the same organization. Beatriz maintains her professional career as vice president of Strategic Partnerships at the technology company Afiniti.
Despite these steps, Buckingham insists that no final decision has been made. “There is no closed agreement about the future of Beatriz and Eugenia. “They continue to be private citizens, but there is the possibility of resorting to them when necessary,” says a source close to the palace. The princesses, for their part, have already expressed their total layout to collaborate in what the king considers appropriate.
Charles III, they explain, is evaluating how the British public would receive them in this new stage. It is not a minor movement: in the absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as official representatives, and with Andrés completely removed, the monarch’s nieces could occupy a generational space that the institution needs.
Friends close to the sisters recognize that they are going through a “devastating” momentbut they assure that they are more united and determined than ever. “They recognize their responsibility and want to support their uncle,” they say.
