The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama will develop a “Closing plan” for the lucrative copper deposit of the Canadian mining company First Quantum in the country, the miner said on Friday, and the schedule is expected to be presented in June.
The plan will include a temporary phase of “environmental preservation and safe management“First Quantum said, adding that it had not been given a legal basis to develop it.
Last month, a Supreme Court ruling declared it unconstitutional the First Quantum contract to operate in the Central American country after months of protests.
