At least 37 people died and dozens were injured after a bus crashed in southern Peruhealth authorities said Wednesday.
The regional health manager in Arequipa, Walther Oporto, told a television station that 36 people died at the same site of the accident and one in a hospital.citing information he received from firefighters in the area of the tragedy.
Oporto stated that the accident occurred after the bus collided with a rural truck and ran into a ravine of about 200 meters.at kilometer 780 of the Panamericana Sur highway, in the Arequipa region.
The regional government of Arequipa said on social media that 26 injured people were being treated in hospitals near the accident area.three of them in serious condition.
Road accidents are frequent in the country, where many vehicles travel in poor condition on precarious roads or are driven by drivers without adequate training.
