Attention against Housing of the Court Prosecutor in Uruguay shakes the country and unleashes alarm

The authorities of Uruguay investigate a serious attack that occurred in Sunday morning against the home of the court prosecutor, Mónica Ferrero. According to official information, two individuals entered the official’s residence and made several shots, which caused material damage to the place, although without leaving injured people.

The attack has generated a strong political and social shock in the country, when considering a fact of enormous institutional severity that directly attempts against the independence and security of the judicial system.

The reactions did not wait. From the ruling party, the senator of the Broad Front Daniel Caggiani expressed his support for the prosecutor and reiterated that it is an unacceptable episode in a rule of law. For his part, former President Luis Lacalle Pou reported that he communicated with the current president Yamandú Orsi to address the situation and stressed that, in this type of facts, there should be no political differences, since the democratic institutionality is at stake.

In turn, members of the National Party, such as Senator Javier García, described the attack as a fact of “incalculable institutional severity”, while the president of that community, Álvaro Delgado described him as a direct attack on the country’s institutionality.

Although the prosecutor was unharmed, the attack raises serious questions about the safety of judicial officials in Uruguay and the motivations behind the attack. The authorities work in the collection of ballistic evidence and in the analysis of security cameras to identify those responsible, while studying whether this episode may be linked to ongoing judicial processes that involve high -power groups.

The investigation seeks to clarify a fact that, beyond its criminal dimension, It represents a challenge to the democratic system and demands a forceful response of the State to guarantee the protection of those who exercise key functions in justice.
