Almost two months after the outbreak of violence that has plunged the state of Sinaloa into an environment of insecurity, the port of Mazatlan was the scene of two armed attacks that left a balance of two injured.
According to available reports, the first event occurred around 6:40 p.m. on November 4 in the Francisco Villa neighborhoodin the western sector of the city.
On Benjamín Argumedo Street, between Coronel Ángel Fierro and Toma de Zacatecas, an undetermined number of armed individuals attacked a home and injured a man.
Upon hearing the explosions, residents of the area came out of their homes to see what had happened. After locating the injured person whose identity was withheld on the sidewalk, a private person helped him for immediate transfer to a hospital.
Moments later, police officers Municipal Police They arrived at the scene and, because the victim had already been transferred, they only found the presence of traces of blood.
The first versions of the events suggested that the detonations had been caused by a confrontation, but municipal authorities stated that it was a direct attack. Initial reports indicate that on Michoacán Street, almost on the corner with Rafael Buelna, neighbors heard a burst of gunshots that, apparently, would have been detonated from a high-caliber weapon.
Minutes later, a group of municipal police arrived at the scene to establish the corresponding security perimeter.
There, the uniformed men found an abandoned burgundy Dodge Attitude car with blood stains and bullet holes. Because there was no one in the vehicle, further details about the attack are unknown. Likewise, the state of health and the number of victims who were hit by bullets remain to be clarified, since there is no data on their whereabouts.
According to statements from the Mayor Estrella Palacios —recovered by the local press—, the security corporations in Mazatlán maintain constant coordination with the State Police, the National Guard and the Armed Forces.
Just a week ago, the tourist area of the port was the scene of a chase and multiple shootings that caused the death of one person.
