Argentina records a current account surplus of US$2,294 million in the last quarter

Argentina registered a surplus of US$2,294 million in the current account in the fourth quarter of 2025, from a positive US$903 million in the same quarter of the previous year, Economy Minister Luis Caputo said on social network X on Friday.

The last third quarter had shown a negative result of US$1,581 million.

The increase in the surplus is explained by a greater balance in the balance of goods, which increased from US$4,919 million to US$6,283 million. This increase was consequence of a 14.4% year-on-year increase in exports and 10.2% in imports, added the publication.

He indicated that the 2025 ended with a deficit of US$7,582 million, equivalent to 1.1% of GDP, while the balance of goods registered a surplus of US$15,359 million, with an increase in exports of 9.3% year-on-year and an increase of 25.2% in imports.

“These results reflect (…) a dynamics consistent with the macroeconomic order and the expansion of the level of activity in a sustained manner, necessary condition to generate quality employment,” noted Caputo.

The Government of the libertarian Javier Mileiwho assumed the presidency in December 2023, promotes adjustments in the economy to seek to balance public accounts of the southern country.

The current account records the trade of goods and services, the flows of primary income and secondary income between residents and non-residents of Argentina.
