An Israeli soldier was killed in a drone attack near the border with Lebanon, the Israeli Armed Forces confirmed on Saturday. The man killed by the terrorist group Hezbollah it was sergeant Noam Hamburger23 years old, originally from Altit, belonging to the 9th Battalion of the 401st Brigade, deployed in northern Israel at the time of the bombing.
The report of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) added that two more soldiers were injured, one seriously and another with minor injuries, and received medical attention at a hospital after their families were notified.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahuexpressed his condolences to Hamburger’s family and stressed that the soldier “fought heroically to defend our communities and citizens from the terrorist organization Hezbollah”.
“My wife and I send our deepest condolences to the family of Private Sergeant First Class Noam Hamburgerwho fell near the northern border. On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, we embrace Noam’s family and loved ones and wish a speedy and complete recovery to his colleagues injured in the serious incident,” the Israeli head of state wrote via x.
Hamburger is the ninth Israeli soldier killed in attacks by the terrorist group since the beginning of the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israeland number 22 since the escalation of tensions in Lebanese territory following the Israeli and US military offensive on Iran that began on February 28.
From Beirut, ten deaths were reported in Israeli attacks during the day on Saturday.
Additionally, the Israeli Armed Forces reported a “suspicious vehicle” in the area of the attack, where a Hezbollah soldier was hit and killed. The vehicle would have left a location identified and used by terrorists backed by the Iranian regime. The Israeli Army stressed that its operations “are against the terrorist organization Hezbollah and not against the Lebanese Army,” and began an investigation into the incident.
On the other hand, the Israeli Army detained five Israeli citizens on Saturday who crossed the border into Lebanon by a few meters, in a day marked by drone attacks by the Shiite Hezbollah militia against communities in northern Israel.
“Recently, five Israeli citizens crossed the border into Lebanese territory by a few meters. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operating there returned all citizens to their country and detained them until the arrival of the Israel Police,” the military statement said. The Army expressed its “strong condemnation” for this “illegal crossing” and described the incident as “a serious incident that constitutes a crime.”
Israel continues to intensify its military operations in southern Lebanon, including attacks and ground advances on villages and other areas, and issues evacuation alerts for localities, despite the ceasefire and talks mediated by the United States.
