An elderly man dies in a fire in a nursing home in Ciudad Real

A fire recorded early this Saturday morning in a nursing home of Carrión de Calatrava, Royal Cityhas caused the death of one of the residents, according to EFE. Two workers, aged 54 and 56, were taken to the Ciudad Real hospital for smoke inhalation. Twenty residents received care at the scene by health teams, although they did not require hospital transfer. The building belongs to the Enoc Corporación Geriátrica group, present in different locations.

The investigation is still ongoing, but there is a main theory that relates the origin of the flames to a electrical failure. Along with the police work, firefighters from Ciudad Real and Daimiel, seven ambulances, an ICU and members of the Red Cross went to the scene, who installed the reception facility in the municipal sports center.

A old man who lived in the Carrión de Calatrava nursing home died this Saturday after the fire that broke out in the center during the early hours of the morning. Although the identity of the victim has not yet been made public, authorities have confirmed that the fire, which forced evict all occupants and mobilized numerous emergency services, leaving one person dead.

The fatality could not be evacuated in time due to the rapid spread of smoke and flames. While the investigations into the causes of the fire continue, emergency teams and those responsible for the center are working to care for the rest of the residents and relatives, who remain waiting for official information about the deceased person and the causes of the incident.

The fire, detected at 6:07, mobilized the emergency services and required a prolonged intervention by the firefighters, who managed to control and extinguish the flames after 10:00. The magnitude of the event forced the complete evacuation of the center. Among the 96 residents91 were temporarily transferred to the Municipal Sports Center, set up as a reception facility, while five were handed over to the care of their families.

Health teams and Red Cross personnel traveled to the site to provide care to the affected people and coordinate relocation. The 112 Emergency Service of Castilla-La Mancha reported that the cause of the fire could be related to a failure in an electrical conduitalthough the investigation remains open to determine the exact origin of the fire.

Fires caused by electrical faults are a considerable risk in nursing homes. Deteriorated or overloaded electrical installations can cause short circuits that, in sensitive environments such as these, become more serious due to the residents’ vulnerability and his reduced mobility.

The accumulation of electronic equipmentair conditioning systems and appliances in continuous operation increases the possibilities of an incident of these characteristics. When an electrical failure occurs, smoke and flames spread rapidly, making evacuation efforts difficult and endangering both elderly people and nursing home staff.
