Javier Milei He led a long meeting with 20 governors of different political stripes in what was his first sign of openness and consensus after winning the midterm elections with more than 40% of the votes.
At the end of the summit, Manuel Adorni, presidential spokesperson, gave details of the steps to be followed by the Casa Rosada and confirmed that “the will is to work with everyone.”. The spokesperson mentioned one by one the provincial leaders who were present at Pink House this afternoon and reiterated the President’s gratitude for his presence. “Javier Milei thanks each of the governors and each of those who are going to make Argentina better from now on.Adorni said.
19 provincial heads were present at the meeting, one vice governor, while the governors of Buenos Aires, Formosa, La Rioja and Tierra del Fuego were left out of the meeting.
As expected, the meeting revolved around the reform agenda in which the Government seeks to advance through Congress, approving laws for labor, tax and Penal Code reform.
This is how the presidential spokesperson expressed it: “The first challenge of the new Congress must be labor modernization, tax reform and the penal code.”
Then he detailed: “The tax reform is going to eliminate countless taxes, lower rates, increase formalization and return millions of dollars to the private sector.”
“Labor modernization will integrate those who are currently in the informal sector, put an end to the trial industry and link the growth of salaries with that of proactivity,” he added.
“And the reform of the penal code so that criminals pay seriously and guarantee the right to private property, which is part of the backbone of growth. Whoever does it pays,” he finally said about the axes that will mark the agenda of issues in Congress, which as of December 10 will have a different makeup, with a greater number of deputies and senators who will respond to President Javier Milei.
“Argentines ratified the course of change and demonstrated in favor of the reforms that the President had proposed in the electoral campaign,” said Adorni, in his first press conference after the victory of La Libertad Avanza in the legislative elections on October 26.
Then he provided some details of the meeting that the head of state held with the first line of officials of his cabinet and the majority of the governors of the provinces. “In this meeting, an important step was taken on this path. Argentines decided to end populism in 2023, it continued with the May Pact and will be consolidated with the new conformation of the congress, which will be the most reformist in history.”
Along with President Milei were the advisor, Santiago Caputo; the general secretary, Karina Milei; the spokesperson himself, Manuel Adorni; and the ministers Patricia Bullrich (Security), Luis Petri (Defense), Federico Sturzenegger (Deregulation and Transformation of the State), Mariano Cúneo Libarona (Justice), SandraPettovello (Human Capital) and Mario Lugones (Health). There were also the chancellor, Pablo Quirno; the president of the Central Bank, Santiago Bausili; the Secretary of Legal and Technical, María Ibarzábal Murphy, and the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem.
“It is the president’s will to work with everyone to return to the path of growth,” Adorni said and warned that “there are conditions for this,” among which he listed “Prioritize savings,” “Increase investment and protect private property,” and “generate the conditions for increased wages, which will come hand in hand with increased productivity and competitiveness.”
“All of this is included in the premises of the May Pact, which were ratified today,” emphasized the presidential spokesperson.
