Two women, a mother, 42 years old, and her daughter, 8, died this Saturday morning in Cambados (Pontevedra) after a violent traffic accident occurred between a car and a tanker transporting diesel. The vehicles collided head-on after the car invaded the opposite lane. Both deceased were natives of Vilagarcía de Arousa and were going to a rhythmic gymnastics competition in which the girl was going to participate. The driver of the truck, from a company in O Porriño, is unharmedbut very shocked by the events.

The accident occurred on the expressway that connects Vilagarcía with the town of Albariño, the VG-3, near the municipal boundary of Vilanova and Cambados.

The road is closed between the Corvillón and Vilanova exits waiting for a tractor unit to arrive to remove the truck. Traffic is being diverted to the PO-549 regional road.

The emergency services acted in the area from shortly before 10 in the morning. It was necessary to move teams from Cambados, Vilanova, Sanxenxo and Vilagarcía. Units from 061 and the Civil Guard also appeared.

The firefighters from the Ribadumia and Vilagarcía parks were not going to intervene initially because the first of them only had two workers this morning, when the minimum guard is three. The one in Vilagarcía has been closed for several days due to the long labor conflict that pits the workers against the firefighting consortiums. Finally, however, an endowment did come out of Ribadumia.
