The number of people who requested state unemployment aid in the United States stood at 203,000 last week, below what was expected, according to the United States Department of Labor.
The previous week’s figure was revised upwards to 207,000, compared to a previous estimate of 206,000.
The economists consulted by Reuters They expected requests to reach 208,000.
The four-week moving average of new claims, which is considered a more reliable indication of labor market trends as it reduces spikes in volatility, rose to 205,500.
The report also showed that the number of people receiving public aid after an initial week of subsidies fell to 1.778 million.
