The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said on Friday that his government intends to resume diplomatic relations with Peru, broken last year by the Andean country after Mexico City granted asylum to a former civil servant of the ousted former leftist president Pedro Castillo.

“Yes, we intend to recover the relationship with Peru. We did not break that relationship, they broke it. And it is good that the president-elect wants to recover the relationship with Mexico,” he said. Sheinbaum in his morning press conference.
