The president of Paraguay, Santiago Pena, highlighted the reduction of poverty and the strengthening of government housing and feeding school during the presentation of its annual report on social indicators before the National Congress.
During his speech, the president stated that, between 2022 and 2025, around 493,000 people left poverty and 180,000 emerged from extreme poverty, according to the country’s official data.
According to the figures presented, general poverty went from 19.6% to 16%, which represents a reduction of 3.6%, while extreme poverty decreased from 3.7% to 2.4% in recent years. The president maintained that this progress is the direct result of economic growth and job creation in the country.
Likewise, the Executive pointed out that social programs such as Zero Hunger, Tekoporã and the universal pension for older adults were key to containing the economic impact, preventing 239,000 people from falling into poverty and another 150,000 will enter to extreme poverty.
The report concluded by detailing that the execution of social spending during this administration reached a historic figure of US$6,084 million.
