US completes strikes on Iran in response to downing of Apache helicopter

Washington, June 9 (EFE).- The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported this Tuesday that it completed a series of attacks against Iranian targets by order of President Donald Trump, in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter that occurred the previous day.

According to the military command, US forces attacked Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations and surveillance radars located near the Strait of Hormuz, using precision munitions launched from Air Force and Navy fighters.

CENTCOM assured that the operation constituted a “proportionate” response to recent attacks against US forces and commercial vessels transiting the waters of the region, and affirmed that its troops remain prepared to respond to new actions that it considers aggression by Iran.

The helicopter, reportedly attacked by Iran, crashed near the coast of Oman and the two soldiers on board were rescued alive by US forces.

Trump announced this Tuesday retaliation for the downing of the Apache: “The United States must necessarily respond to this attack,” he warned on his Truth Social network.

These events occur amid new clashes in the region, where Iran and Israel have exchanged attacks in recent days, leading Trump to demand on Monday an “immediate” end to the shooting, also by his Israeli ally.

The American president said in the early hours of this Tuesday that he could reach an agreement with Iran in “two or three days”, the umpteenth deadline he has set after several weeks of negotiations with the Islamic Republic. EFE
