The Police have arrested two men in El Puig, Valencia, accused of fraudulently registering citizens in an irregular situation in a property where they did not reside, in exchange for sums that ranged between 150 and 800 euros. These people would have paid the owner to appear on the municipal registry and thus get documents that would allow them to regularize their stay in Spain. The investigations also identified a second person involved, a collaborator of the main investigator, in charge of facilitating the process as an intermediary for foreign citizens.

Cases like this show the vulnerability and risks faced by many undocumented migrants in Spain. For this reason, the extraordinary regularization of migrants, whose application period ends on June 30, takes on special relevance. The measure seeks to offer a legal and safe way for hundreds of thousands of foreigners who already reside in the country to access rights and legal protection, thus avoiding situations of exploitation and fraud such as the one detected in El Puig.

The Government of Spain has approved an extraordinary regularization process that will benefit half a million migrants. In this video we explain all the details: who can apply, the residency and criminal requirements, and the deadlines to submit the application.

Regularization will allow you to obtain a residence and work permit valid for the entire national territory for one year, as long as you meet some requirements such as have arrived in Spain before December 31, 2025 and be able to prove a continuous stay of at least five months, in addition to not having a criminal record.

This process also seeks reduce the underground economy and improve social integration, eliminating bureaucratic barriers and providing security for both workers and employers.

The presentation of applications for extraordinary regularization began in person on April 20 and will remain open until June 30, a period that social organizations consider insufficient given the high volume of requests. These weeks have been marked by the difficulties that migrants have had in obtaining the vulnerability certificate at city halls and the criminal record certificate at embassies and consulates.

However, despite these difficulties, social entities emphasize that the process represents a “historical milestone” and an opportunity to advance the integration and protection of the rights of thousands of people who are already part of Spanish society.
