The National Electoral Council (CNE) would have received two complaints against the presidential candidate and senator Iván Cepeda Castro, of the Historical Pact, for the alleged holding of massive and public campaign events less than a week before the presidential elections. The complaints are based on the possible violation of the provisions of Decree 188 of 2026 of the Ministry of the Interior, in which article 6 specifies:
“Starting Monday, May 25 and until Monday, June 1, 2026, only political meetings can be held in closed spaces.”.
According to Snail Radiothe complaints in question will be distributed to be studied in the selected offices.
On the morning of May 27, 2026, before the media, the president of the CNE, Cristian Quiroz, assured that at that time the electoral authority had not received any investigation request related to the holding of campaign events by the left-wing presidential candidate.
“To date, no request for investigation or complaint regarding this type of actions has been received. The invitation to all candidates is to respect the rules of democracy so that we all know how to act. Once the request for an investigation or complaint arrives, because, right now I repeat, nothing has arrived to date, the full court will carry out the investigations and make the corresponding decisions in these cases,” he stated.
