The Dane Jonas Vingegaard conquered the ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia alone, winning at the top of Corno alle Scale after leaving Felix Gall behind. This new victory reinforces his dominance in the mountains within the current edition. The leader of the classification, Afonso Eulálio, crossed the finish line in fifth position, 41 seconds behind Vingegaard, and retained the pink jersey for another day.

The strategic climb to Corno alle Scale, first category, with its 10.8 kilometers at an average gradient of 6.1%, marked a turning point in the day, which precedes the rest day scheduled for Monday. The next challenge of the Giro will be a 42-kilometer individual time trial between Viareggio and Massa, flat terrain designed for specialists.

During the course of the stage, the most important breakaway was carried out by a group of eight riders, including Lorenzo Milesi and Einer Rubio (Movistar Team), who managed to take a 2:30 minute lead over the peloton. Later, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), along with Diego Ulissi (Astana) and Toon Aerts (Lotto Intermarché), joined the leading group, but it would be Ciccone who struck first in the bonus sprint, then giving in to the push of the Colombian Einer Rubio, who took the maximum bonus seconds.

Although Ciccone managed to open a small gap in the last kilometers, he was overtaken less than two kilometers from the finish by Felix Gall and Jonas Vingegaard, who ascended at a greater pace from the peloton. Already on the most demanding slopes, Vingegaard accelerated, left Gall behind, and added his second stage victory in this Giro.
