President Donald Trump said Monday that the ceasefire with Iran is “in a critical state,” after calling it “stupid” Tehran’s response to an American peace proposal.
Trump’s swift rejection of Iran’s response on Sunday has stoked concerns that the conflict, now 10 weeks old, It is prolonged and continues to paralyze maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
“I would say that right now it is very fragile; after reading that garbage they sent us, I didn’t even finish reading it”Trump said about the ceasefire. “He is in critical condition.”
Days after Washington presented a proposal aimed at resuming negotiationsIran on Sunday published a response focused on ending the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, where Israel is fighting Hezbollah militants.
Tehran also demanded compensation for war damages, stressed its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and called on the United States to end its naval blockade, ensure that there would be no further attacks, lift sanctions and remove the ban on Iranian oil sales.
On Monday, Trump also stated that Iran is willing to deliver “nuclear dust” to his country. in reference to Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, and said only China and the United States have the capacity to recover it.
