Barcelona City Council condemns the death of a 92-year-old woman murdered by her son

Barcelona, Apr 27 (EFE).- Members of the Barcelona municipal corporation have participated in the minute of silence in condemnation and rejection of the murder of a 92-year-old resident of the Sant Andreu district, allegedly by her son, a 67-year-old man, in a social and health center last Friday.

The Deputy Mayor for Social Rights, Raquel Gil, who has led the municipal representation in honoring this victim of domestic violence, has pointed out the importance of the “violence that older women suffer within their environment. Violence that not only comes at the hands of couples, but, as has happened in this case, can also be at the hands of their children.”

“Every time we are here we say it: this challenges us to work more and better. We are putting in a lot of resources, we are working in coordination with the administrations, but we also need a cultural change that ensures that relationships between men and women are made from respect, from complicity, from joint work and not from situations that continue to put one gender above another,” declared the deputy mayor.

The council has expressed its deepest condolences and affection to the environment of the murdered woman and to the neighborhood of the Sant Andreu neighborhood. EFE
