Islamabad, April 24 (EFE).- The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, held a telephone conversation this Friday with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, a few hours before the scheduled arrival in Islamabad of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abas Araqchi, who is also expected to visit Moscow.
“Lavrov recognized Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States. The Foreign Minister underlined Pakistan’s determination to continue contributing to efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy in order to resolve all problems,” the Pakistani government said in a statement.
The telephone consultation took place hours before Araqchí begins a regional tour that, in addition to Pakistan, will take him to Oman and Russia, according to the Iranian Government, to “maintain consultations on bilateral ties, regional events and the latest developments related to the war against Iran.”
The official media has defined this movement as a search for bilateral consultations to analyze the latest events in the region and the current situation of what it calls “the war imposed by the terrorist regimes of the United States and Israel on Iran.”
Pakistani government sources previously informed EFE that Araqchí would arrive in Islamabad tonight accompanied by a small delegation with a view to a second round of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Pakistan maintains its position as the main formal channel of communication between Washington and Tehran, after the first round of direct contacts held on April 11 and 12 in Islamabad.
“Reiterating the importance of holding regular high-level meetings, they discussed the possibility of rescheduling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Russia to an early date that is convenient for both parties,” the official note added.
The call concluded with a formal invitation from Dar to Lavrov to visit Pakistan. EFE
