The sale of tickets for the BTS concerts in Bogotá has raised questions about the resale of tickets at high prices and the speed with which they were sold out on official channels. The former director of the Department for Social Prosperity (DPS), Gustavo Bolívar, spoke about this issue, addressing the case in a video published on his social networks.

In his speech, Bolívar pointed out that the sales process generated concerns among the group’s followers, because the tickets were sold out in a short time and later appeared on resale sites.

“As soon as they sell the tickets… they run out and the second after they have run out, the resellers’ pages appear already prepared with the prices from tribune to tribune”he stated.

He also referred to the values at which the tickets would be offered: “Nineteen million pesos for tickets of three hundred thousand pesos. Incredible,” he said.

According to him, this situation especially affects those who were hoping to attend the concert after several years of expectation: “It is not fair that people wait thirteen years for a concert and it turns out that the tickets are given to resellers”he pointed out.

Reference to complaints on social networks

During his message, Bolívar mentioned the case of a user on social networks who questioned the availability of tickets for resale in different locations, despite the high demand in the official sale.

“How is it possible that there is resale in all areas? (…) How is it possible that an entry that was for three hundred thousand pesos is for two million six hundred thousand?”, is heard in the aforementioned video.

The former official returned to this type of complaints to insist on the need to review the marketing process.

Recognition for K-pop fans

In his speech, Gustavo Bolívar also referred to the role of K-pop followers in digital and political scenarios.

“Many BTS fans in Colombia, those we call the K-popers, helped us in the presidential campaign. Do you remember when Uribismo attacked us? “They came out to defend us,” he said.

In that sense, he explained that his statement also responds to that background: “I am going to defend them”he indicated.

Likewise, he highlighted the organizational capacity of these communities: “They have helped progressives in various campaigns to deny things, because they are immense networks worldwide,” he added.

Personal experience and group context

Bolívar also recounted his personal experience learning about the global impact of BTS during a trip to South Korea.

“It’s a worldwide phenomenon. I met it in Korea,” he said. He indicated that, before that trip, he had no knowledge of the group: “I didn’t know what it was, I have to confess.”

During his visit, he said that several people asked him to get the band’s autographs, which he described as a difficult task. In addition, he mentioned the pause in the group’s activity due to mandatory military service in South Korea: “One of its members was taken into the army… here military service is mandatory,” he explained.

He also highlighted the magnitude of his presentations: “I was once in New York and I saw a line that was about seven blocks long… it was them.”he commented.

Proposal for a third date

In the midst of questions about the sale of tickets, Bolívar raised the possibility of expanding the number of concerts in Bogotá. “I don’t know if they can open a third concert because there are already two and both are full”he stated.

In that sense, he made reference to the distribution of tickets in a possible new event: “For the third concert, don’t give the ticket to the resellers, let them leave it to the popular people.”he expressed.

In addition, he pointed out the importance of facilitating access to followers: “Please open a little window… for the popular fans so they can have their ballot”he indicated.

Support for SIC research

In his speech, the former director of the DPS also referred to the actions of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce in this case.

“I am glad that the SIC… has already opened an investigation into the sellers of these tickets,” he stated.

  • The technological measures implemented

The SIC also indicated that these actions include requirements to PROMOTORA DE COLOMBIA SAS and TICKET COLOMBIA SAS, in order to verify compliance with the provisions regarding consumer protection.

In addition, the entity pointed out that the process responds to multiple complaints filed by citizens who tried to purchase tickets for the concerts.
