They threaten candidates of the Historical Pact in Norte de Santander: they are given 48 hours to leave the territory

The Historical Pact in Norte de Santander made a public complaint about alleged death threats against several of its candidates and leaders, who had received an intimidating message that gave them a period of 48 hours to leave the territory or face violent reprisals.

The community made the complaint through a statement issued on March 10, 2026 in San José de Cúcuta, in which it warned that the threats were allegedly sent by members of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC).

According to the document spread on social networks, Among the threatened people are the senator-elect Martín Alonso Caicedo Carabalí and several candidates for the House of Representatives for Norte de Santander.in addition to regional leaders who are part of the movement’s campaign team.

The statement raised alarms about the security of political leaders in the department, especially in the midst of the current electoral context in the country.

According to the complaint of the Historical Pact, the intimidating message directly mentions several members of the community.

Among those mentioned are the senator-elect already mentioned; the candidates for the House of Representatives Jaime Gómez, Liliana Barragán, Laura Amaya, Luis Alberto García and Andrés Obando; as well as the leaders Rafael Romero, departmental president of the Patriotic Union and co-president of the Historical Pact, and Manuel Hernández, campaign manager.

In the statement, The community stated that the threats put the lives of its members at risk and affect the free exercise of political activity in the region..

The Historical Pact assured that the message attributed to the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia contains direct expressions of intimidation and political persecution.

According to what was reported, the text states: “Guerrillas of the pact, we have identified them, we will not allow an insurgency to exist in NDS. We know who their leaders are and how they operate. They have 48 hours, let’s go for their dead heads. ATT AGC.”

The community indicated that this type of threats revives scenarios of political violence that have marked the country’s history, which is why it requested immediate attention from the authorities.

After learning of the threats, The Historical Pact made an urgent call to the National Government and various State institutions to guarantee the safety of the aforementioned leaders and candidates.

In the statement, the community requested the intervention of the Attorney General’s Office to investigate those responsible; of the Government of Norte de Santander, to coordinate protection actions; of the National Protection Unit (UNP), to evaluate security schemes; from the Ombudsman’s Office and the MOE, to accompany the process; and human rights defense organizations, to monitor the situation.

The political movement warned that what is at stake is the fundamental right to life and the democratic exercise of politics.

The situation was also publicly denounced by House representative Gabriel Becerra, who through his social networks warned about the risk faced by the leaders of the movement in the department.

The congressman assured that the threats include the elected senator Martín Alonso Caicedo and several regional leaders of the Historical Pact, for which he requested an immediate reaction from the authorities.

Likewise, he demanded that urgent protection measures be adopted and those responsible for the intimidating messages be investigated.
