Beaches in Ancón, Chorrillos, Miraflores, Punta Hermosa and more districts expose bathers to health risks and lack of security

Every day the temperatures are higher in Lima and thousands of families take advantage of their vacations to go and enjoy the beaches of the capital. However, the Comptroller General of the Republic detected 96 risk situations that endanger safety and health of bathers in the spas of Metropolitan Lima during the 2026 season.

The control operation, called ‘Summer Beaches 2026: Safe and Sustainable Beaches’, supervised 63 beaches and four coastal areas in the capital, revealing deficiencies in rescue infrastructure, basic services and municipal management, according to Report No. 221-2026-CG/GRLIM-SOP.

According to the report of the Comptrolleronly the 37% of spas evaluated has complete equipment for rescue, such as control towers, specialized personnel, masts and flags that warn about the state of the sea. At the same time, a 25% completely lack security measuresaffecting highly crowded beaches in Ancón, Chorrillos, Miraflores and Punta Hermosa.

The supervision identified that the 57% of beaches do not have first aid stations and one in four does not have contingency plans for earthquakes or tsunamis.

In Santa Rosaboth the Grande and Chica beaches have this deficiency, which limits the ability to respond to emergencies. Furthermore, the 29% do not have adequate signage to warn about dangerous areas, risk times or evacuation routes; among them, Los Pulpos and San Antonio in Lurínwere pointed out for this omission.

According to the report presented, four out of ten beaches lack hygienic service modules and, in some cases, the bathrooms are not connected to water or drainage networks, as is the case in Venice, in Villa El Salvador.

It was also detected that 13 beaches do not have garbage cans and, where they exist, more than half do not comply with the color code for the correct disposal of waste.

He 41% lack current fumigation or deratization certificationa situation evidenced in The Nymphs, in Pucusanawhich could favor the presence of mosquitoes, rodents and bacteria that represent a health risk. Outside of the resorts, three of the four coastal areas not considered beaches present accumulation of garbage and clearing, mainly in areas under the jurisdiction of Chorrillos, San Isidro and Magdalena.

By districts, the municipality of Miraflores presented observations in Makaha Beachwhere there is no registration or authorization for surf and paddle schools that offer teaching services. There is also no information on the certification of the instructors. In Ravinethe beaches The Yuyos and The Turkeys present the same situation. The report highlights that these activities are carried out without municipal supervision or control over the suitability of personnel.

In Chorrilloscontrol of the beaches Fresh Water I and II revealed that the security staff does not intervene with people outside the entity who request money from vacationers for the use of vehicle parking, affecting the free use of public spaces and the safety of users.
