During this weekend, Important structural works were carried out that mark a new milestone in the schedule. Starting at 7:30 am on Saturday, October 19, technical teams carried out the pouring of concrete in the diaphragm beam, a key cross piece that connects the main beams of the bridge, and also the pouring of the foundation beams corresponding to the western ear, one of the road connection areas.

The IDU confirmed that in the coming weeks progress will be made with the assembly and emptying of columnsas well as with the masonry construction necessary to form the transfer plate on the western side. These activities will allow us to consolidate the structure that will support vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist traffic.

The vehicular bridge on 153rd Street with the North Highway will be a modern infrastructure 363 meters long (including approaches) and 20.45 meters wide. It will have three vehicular lanes, an incorporation lane and an exclusive 5-meter strip for pedestrians and cyclists.thus strengthening sustainable and multimodal mobility in the northern area of the city.

This project seeks to decongest traffic on the North Highway and improve the connection between Suba, Usaquén and western Bogotá. Currently, the sector registers high levels of traffic, especially during peak hours, which has generated long lines of vehicles and travel times that exceed 40 minutes in some sections.

When the administration of Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán took office, in January 2024, the work was only 11.23% physically complete. Since then, The execution rate has increased considerably, reaching 62.49% as of October 6, 2025, which represents significant progress in less than two years.

The project is executed by the Colombia 2021 Road Consortium, made up of Inzignia Construction (34%), Cass Constructores SAS (33%) and Solarte Nacional de Construcciones SAS – Sonacol SAS (33%). The financing comes from the valorization mechanism, a citizen contribution created through Agreement 724 of 2018 to promote road infrastructure works in Bogotá.

Despite the current progress, the execution of the work has not been without difficulties. According to the IDU, the project has faced delays and contractual modifications derived from technical adjustments in the foundation design and problems in the contractor’s compliance with the schedule.

For these reasons, The entity is carrying out an administrative sanctioning process against the construction consortium for alleged non-compliance with the current schedule, with a fine estimated at $243 million. This procedure seeks to guarantee that contractors meet the established times and that the final delivery of the bridge is not affected.

The IDU has reiterated its commitment to citizens to maintain continuity and transparency in the execution of the works, highlighting that the 153 bridge with the North Highway is one of the priority infrastructures for mobility in the north of the capital.

Once completed, the bridge will not only improve traffic flow on the North Highway, but will also facilitate the interconnection between 153rd Street, 9th Street and Boyacá Avenue.significantly reducing travel times and pollution levels generated by constant traffic jams.

In addition, the design includes safe spaces for pedestrians and cyclists, promoting active mobility and reducing the risk of accidents. With these characteristics, the work is projected as a comprehensive and sustainable solution for the inhabitants of Suba and surrounding areas.

While its construction progresses, the IDU maintains traffic management and temporary signaling operations to mitigate road impacts in the sector, especially at the intersections with the North Highway and 153rd Street.

With a progress of 62% and an estimated delivery date for the end of 2026, the 153rd Street Bridge with the North Highway is emerging as one of the emblematic works of mobility in Bogotá, a project that will transform the connectivity of the north and improve the quality of life of thousands of citizens.
