Newspoll: 56 to 44 in Labor’s favour

Today’s Newspoll predicted that were an election held over the weekend, Labor would have won 56 per cent of the two party preferred vote, and the Coalition 44 per cent.

All of the polls are now showing both trend-line and moving average returns to the government since March 2007. Nonetheless, the polls are still showing landslide wins for Labor.

While the trend-lines are useful to unpack the volatility and illustrate the underlying movement that has occurred, caution should be exercised in extending the trend-lines forward. The trend lines cannot be used to make a reliable prediction of the election outcome.
